The tale of Bought By Many
The year is 2012. Our founder-to-be, Steven Mendel, clocks that the insurance biz is a bit, well… rubbish. It’s much harder than it should be to find good cover for the right price. The tech is behind the times. The customer service is chilly.
He’s not the only one who thinks so. His pal Guy Farley, who he met working in financial services, agrees.
So they get together and form Bought By Many to help people find all kinds of quality cover at fairer prices.

The pet project
You see, they noticed that it was cat and dog owners shouting the loudest about their insurance woes. Claims were slow or rejected for unfathomable reasons. They couldn’t speak to a real person. And why were companies still insisting on paper forms?
Steven got it. He’d sadly lost his own dog in late 2012 and had faced many of the same problems. He saw a space where Bought By Many could make a real difference.
After listening to thousands of pet parents, the team created a new generation of policies – ones built with the needs of furry family members at heart. Because we understand that when people insure their pets, they're insuring their happiness too.

Peace of mind policies
In 2017 our pet insurance hit the market. We’re one of the first in the UK to offer up to £15,000 vet fee cover and unlimited 24/7 video vet calls with FirstVet. Our online claims process is simple and easy to understand. For the first time ever there’s a 20% MoneyBack option if you don't need to claim in a policy year.
And the best part? We have a friendly, empathetic team in place, ready to help pet parents who need support.
The global pack
Our cover's a hit. So much so that Steven and Guy thought more people should get to try it. That’s why in 2021 we crossed the pond to enter the US market.
By the end of 2022, over 600,000 pets are part of our global pack. That’s an awful lot of paws.

What’s in a name?
As our team has grown, naturally, so has our pet obsession. In fact, 80% of us across our fur-friendly offices own a cat, dog or smaller pet – including Steven's naughty Black Lab, Satchmo.
But we realised our name didn’t exactly scream (or howl) this. So, in 2022 we changed it from Bought By Many to ManyPets. It’s a bit easier to remember and, like us, it’s all about – you guessed it – pets.
The journey continues
What next? Well, pet parents continue to love what we do. We've won Pet Insurance Provider of the Year three times, in the 2024, 2022 and 2021 Moneyfacts Consumer Awards and our cat and dog insurance was rated five stars by Fairer Finance in 2024.
And we keep pushing beyond insurance. New perks, preventative treatment plans, extra policy bits – anything to help care more for your pet’s health and wellbeing.
