Halloween pet treat recipes

Trick or treating is here and we are celebrating it with horror movies and sweets for everyone. To help you include your cat and dog in the celebrations we’ve sniffed out a few recipes for spooky pet treats.

Get some Halloween-themed cookie cutters and ice cube trays and let’s get started.

Spooky biscuits

Spooky peanut butter and banana shapes for dogs

What you need:

• Halloween-themed dough cutters, e.g. bones, pumpkin, bat, coffin shapes

• One large or two medium extra ripe bananas

• 200g xylitol-free peanut butter

• 65g oats

Method:

1. Blitz the oats.

2. Mix and blend everything together until you get a smooth peanut-butter doughy mixture.

3. Add a bit more peanut butter if your dough is dry and crumbly.

4. Roll the dough out and cut out your spooky shapes.

5. Bake for 15 mins or until lightly brown at 180 C.

6. Let them cool down before you offer them to your fur baby.

Egg, honey, lactose-free milk biscuits for cats

What you need:

• Halloween-themed dough cutters. Think the classic Halloween cat pose, pumpkin, bat, coffin shapes

• 195g wheat or white flour

• 1 – ½ tsps catnip

• 40g powdered lactose free milk

• 120ml lactose-free milk

• 2 tbsp lactose-free butter, softened

• 1 tbsp honey

• 1 egg

Method:

1. Mix everything to form a soft dough.

2. Roll out dough and cut your spooky shapes out.

3. Bake for approximately 20 minutes or until golden brown.

4. Let them cool down before you give them to your kitty.

Spooky softies

Pumpkin softies for dogs

What you need:

• Pumpkin shaped mini-cupcake tray or baking moulds

• 220g oat flour (make your own in the food processor by grinding rolled oats about a minute)

• 130g pureed pumpkin

• 65  xylitol-free peanut butter

Method:

1. Mix everything.

2. Shape the dough by hands to get pumpkins or use moulds.

3. Bake at 180 C for around 20 minutes or until golden.

Chicken and egg softies for cats

What you need:

• Halloween-themed baking moulds

• One chicken breast

• Three eggs

Method:

1. Cook the chicken breast in the oven - follow product instructions. Once cooked, take it out of the oven and let it cool down.

2. Whisk the eggs.

3. Cut the chicken breast into small pieces and mix together with the eggs.

4. Pour the mixture in your spooky moulds and bake for 15 to 20 minutes on around 180 C. Check if cooked inside by sticking a skewer in the middle. If it comes out clean - they're done.

All the ingredients in the recipes are safe for cats and dogs to eat but take care if your pet has any allergies or intolerances. Speak to a veterinary nutritionist or your vet if you're unsure.
